10-31-11 Such a Neglected Holiday!

I think the Columbus Day has been completely overlooked as a holiday. I like it because we get a day off of school. It was a little more intense this year because at 8 o'clock that morning, two cars were in an accident outside my house. It was a much different way to wake up, but it was pretty exciting. I actually thought that it was thunder when the car hit our porch and tried to go back to sleep. I know that that was a little ridiculous, but a car flipping onto our porch is not a very common occurrence so I thought of the most logical explanation for the noise. Then I realized something was wrong when my mom and uncle were running around. Then the car caught on fire! That made everything crazier because the possibility of my house catching on fire was pretty plausible. So I, of course, start joking around. I know that sounds really bad, but whenever I get in serious situations I begin to make jokes and laugh to keep the mood positive even though it's pretty serious what is going on. Well, thankfully, the kids that live across the street were very understanding of my humor and weren't that offended by my jokes. Luckily the house didn't catch on fire, but there was a really bad smoky smell that engulfed the entire house. I know that this experience would make most people hate this holiday, but without this happening, I would never have thought of the Halloween costume this year and I wouldn't have this crazy story to tell people. When students are asked what they did on their day off, they usually say things like sleeping in, but I get to say that a car flipped onto my porch at 8 in the morning on our day off...No Big Deal!

10-24-11 TOMS!!!

So when conflicted with the option of a choice blog, I wasn't sure of what to write. Then I received a package in the mail the day of October 24, 2011. This package contained probably one of my most valued possessions, which is kind of sad, but beside the point. Yes, I've decided to write my choice blog on my new pair of TOM's shoes. These shoes are probably one of the most awesome pairs of shoes you will ever see. They come in so many colors, patterns, and designs. It was very difficult to choose which pair to buy because there were so many options. I literally debated on three pairs of these shoes for a good thirty minutes. Then I had a revelation when I saw the most beautiful pair of TOMS ever. They were leopard print, so I was like, "DONE." Not only are they super cute and comfortable, but every time a person buys a pair of their shoes, the company donates a pair of shoes to a child in Africa. This pretty much justified the fact that I spent $55 on a pair of shoes, which is a little steep I know. However, my sister gave me gift cards to me for my birthday last week for TOMS, so technically she spent $55 on shoes...so I feel better about myself. This brings me to my next point which is my birthday is on August 12th and She gave me my present October 15th...I'm not complaining, but this seems to be a trend that is happening from year to year because she did the same thing last year, only she waited until November to give me my gift. So, she's gotten a little better, but it's still kind of late. Oh well, I'm just super excited about my TOMS that I'm probably wearing right now so you should look at them because they're pretty sweet!

10-21-11 Best Class Ever!

My favorite class would have to be Online Publishing, no question. There is literally no comparison to any other class because it's just that awesome. I love days 1 and 3 because those are the days when I have Online Publishing. It's the highlight of my day because I have two difficult and long classes the first two blocks, then a nice simple day afterwards. I also love the people in that class, like Kathleen Herter and Laura Slojkowski. Again, I really can't stand Brian Stoldt. He just has to talk back to me every time I speak, which is rude...keep in mind, I'm only joking! Anyways, we always have something fun going on in that class and it makes me more and more excited to get there. For example, we are making I.D. badges for the News Room and we're going to laminate them, which is going to be awesome. Mr. Currin informed me that he had a laminator machine at his house (not in Angola) which isn't normal might I add, but it is helpful. I think that the blogs we do are also very fun and the articles we have are very intriguing and creative. I love being a senior editor as well, because I like checking other people's work and seeing what a great job the class is doing. However, my main focus has been the Party Planning Committee, which consists of Madeline Koelbl, Tara Hammershmidt, and me. We pretty much run the Newspaper and coordinate Casual Fridays, which can't be on Thursdays because they are called Casual Fridays (not Casual Thursdays). Mr. Currin always makes our class fun and enjoyable because of the jokes and random comments made throughout the class. The same jokes and comments were used in last year's Online Publishing class, and yet they still manage to crack me up laughing.

10-19-11 He's Kind of a Big Deal...

I would have to say that my favorite teacher is Mr. Currin, and I'm not trying to be a suck up or anything. I just enjoy the classes I have with him as a teacher. For example, Online Publishing is my favorite class and he is the teacher for that class. I like Online Publishing because the people in there are so funny and we all get along so well...except me and Brian because I can't stand him...just kidding...but seriously. Despite that, Mr. Currin makes the class really fun and enjoyable. I also have A.P. English with him and that class is really great too because of the discussions the class has with the books we read and the messages we talk about. We also talk about Mr. Foss and his beliefs a lot in class which is fun because I had him for U.S. history and I know the majority of his teachings. I just like the way Mr. Currin lets us discuss topics by ourselves in Socratic Seminars because I get so many ideas that I never would have thought of without listening to the other students. I also had him for English 11 last year. I've literally had him twice a year for two years now. Well, in that time I've learned a lot from his classes and I've got to react with people I wouldn't usually in his classes or who I don't normally see throughout the day which is always really fun. I know this is going to sound corny, but Mr. Currin inspired me to want to become a high school english teacher. I love reading and writing and discussing how people interpret the messages that are sent through the book. When I grow up and find a teaching job, maybe, I hope that I can be as great of a teacher as Mr. Currin is.

10-11-11 Loves Me Some TEDS!

I love Ted's Hot Dogs. That pretty much sums up my eating life. I usually get two cheeseburgers, some of their beatutiful fries, and just a medium Dr. Pepper. I know that two cheeseburgers are a bit much, but I can't resist the deliciosity. Plus their french fries are so good! I love them primarily because they're always fresh unlike other food establishments, like McDonalds. With McDonalds, you never know if the fries are going to be fresh or old. If the fries are old, they become almost exactly like an actual potato and they taste really cold and gross. At Ted's, all the food is made right in front of you, so you know that it's fresh. I think that Ted's Hot Dogs are also pretty amazing. Well, the restaurant is named after their hot dogs so I'd expect them to be awesome, which they are. My family has also been going to Ted's since I was little so I've grown up with Ted's in my life, and it's hard to fathom that some people have never had Ted's before. I can't understand how people could ever doubt Ted's delicious food, unless they were vegetarians or vegans. I just love Ted's cheeseburgers so much and I can't find another way to put this because I've already said everything that I wanted to say so...this is just my favorite restaurant ever. Usually I'm speechless every time I get to eat their food because their food it that amazing and that wonderful. The people that make the food are also very nice, most of the time. Once my sister ordered a cheeseburger and this lady started questioning if my sister knew what she was talking about because the lady thought Allison said freezeburger, which made no sense whatsoever. That was a really odd encounter, but it was pretty funny. I also know that the Ted's restaurant is not in Alden, but it's just so good and no other restaurant can compare to Ted's because it's just classic awesome-ness.
